Bastrop County Conservatives Monthly Meeting with Andy Weir

Andy Wier and his wife, Mary, have been Bastrop residents since 2004 and live in an area where there is no rural water service. They used rainwater collection and completed a water well in 2017. In 2018, the LCRA applied for a permit to produce 25,000 acre-feet of water on the Griffith League Ranch, a mile from the Wier property. Since that time, Andy has immersed himself in groundwater geology and policy. He is the executive director for the Simsboro Aquifer Water Defense Fund [SAWDF], working with landowners, government, and businesses to protect groundwater rights and the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer. Representative Stan Gerdes filed three bills on groundwater this session in response to input from SAWDF and stakeholders. Andy will show us the groundwater underneath Bastrop County and update us on current legislation regarding groundwater.
