Committees

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

How do you feel about the direction of our County, State, and Nation?

We at Bastrop County Conservatives believe that great outcomes are achieved not by the talents of a few, but by the contributions of many. If you’re looking for ways to get involved, read about the opportunities with our various committees then fill out the Volunteer form and we will reach out to you.

Candidate Sourcing & Selection Committee

Our mission is to identify, source and select candidates within Bastrop County who support our conservative values.

Our mission is to identify, source and select candidates within Bastrop County who support our conservative values.

We accomplish this through interviewing and vetting existing candidates for office and through networking and sourcing new candidates as needed.

This Committee is key to our mission. We also support candidates for State and Federal offices such as State Board of Education, House of Representatives, Congress, and Senate.

If you have an interest in serving in a political role, or know someone who may make an excellent candidate, from school board to County Judge, please let us know and we will arrange for an interview, then work with you or them to prepare for the next primary or election.

Part of the role of the Committee is to interview existing candidates, as well as potential candidates, to ensure they share our values. These interviews are conducted with three or four Committee members and the candidate using prepared questions that are multiple choice and/or open ended.

Our Committee will work very closely with the Electoral Support Committee, who will assist our candidates to ensure they have the best possible chance of winning.

Committee member background and activities –

  • Everyone is capable of fulfilling a role in this Committee. It is a team effort.
  • You should be willing to meet people, share your values and discuss open offices. Typically, you will have discussions with potential candidates along with two or three other Committee members.
  • If you personally know current office holders in the Independent School Districts, City Councils, Emergency Services Districts, County Commissioners Court, State House of Representative, Congress or Senate, or other offices, that is very helpful. Many times, these office holders are an excellent source of contacts for new candidates.
  • Your time commitment depends on the election cycle. If an election is a year away, this Committee will be sourcing and selecting candidates who share our values. You might contribute two hours a month or ten, depending on your interest and the time of the election cycle.

      Electoral Support Committee

Our mission is to identify, source and support candidates within Bastrop County who support our conservative values.

Our mission is to identify, source and support candidates at the County, State and Federal levels who support our conservative values. We provide candidates the support needed to maximize their opportunity to win elections.

The work this Committee performs fulfills our mission statement. This is BCC’s core mission, to ensure the election of conservative candidates.

The Electoral Support Committee works with our candidate’s campaign chair to maximize our candidate’s opportunity to win.

This Committee will coordinate support from our Communications Committee (see description  below). This Committee may provide guidance and support relating to debates, website development, IT, block walking, phone calls, text messaging, social media, sign design, image development and more. The support provided for each candidate will be customized to their needs.

An experienced candidate may only need access to our proprietary texting/calling/block walking software. A candidate new to politics will need much more comprehensive support from all areas starting with sign design through block walking and phone calls.

Committee member background and activities –

      • Everyone is capable of fulfilling a role in this Committee. It is a team effort. You simply have to have a desire to maintain our family way of life.
      • Time commitment depends on the election cycle and how many candidates you choose to assist.
      • If an election is a year away, this Committee will be meeting with candidates we are supporting to establish a calendar reflecting which actions need to be taken when. During this time, you might contribute two to four hours a month, depending on your availability.
      • Also, a year before an election, you might work with the Finance Committee to assist in developing a campaign expenditures plan for supporting your candidate.
      • At six months, you might be working closely with the candidates of your choice ensuring they are aware of speaking events, festivals and parades where they can promote their name. The Committee will provide guidance on when and where to place signs.
      • A few weeks before early voting, you might ensure the candidates you are supporting have their phone call banks ready to go, and block walking and texting campaigns set up. These functions will be staffed primarily by the candidate’s friends and family who you and other Committee members will meet to kick off the process. BCC supporters will most likely be available to assist as well, as many times the candidates “friends and family” are BCC members.
      • Time commitment will vary depending on the election cycle and the role you choose to perform. You may choose to support two or three candidates, or you may choose to assist the Chair. You may choose to send text messages, do phone calls or block walk for a candidate. Whichever role or roles you choose, be sure it is where you have a passion and make it fun!

          Child Education Advocacy Committee

Our mission is to advocate for the well-being and educational growth of our children by providing awareness of educational issues that compromise our family-based way of life.

Our mission is to advocate for the well-being and educational growth of our children by providing awareness of educational issues that compromise our family-based way of life.

We promote positive changes within Bastrop County’s educational system that align with the conservative values we support.

All meetings of the four school districts in the County are attended by our Committee members. Our members are active on school committees responsible for selecting books for our children, reviewing ISD and public library books for inappropriate content, participating in issues before the State Board of Education, sending Freedom of Information Act requests on topics of interest to the Committee and more.

This is an incredibly important undertaking, one which influences the lives of all of our children. Committee members have spoken in front of school boards and city councils in support of our values. As a member, your role may be as simple as showing up at one of these meetings in support of our speaker. Your presence makes a difference. Even though we may have only one person speaking, when that person has fifty people in the audience supporting them, school boards and city councils listen. Your voice DOES make a difference.

In Bastrop County, historically, city councils and school boards have heard extensively from liberals, but very little from conservatives. There has been no organized response by conservatives to these issues. This Committee has a presence. We are making a difference!

Committee member background and activities –

          • This is key, you must have a passion for the children of Bastrop County. No need to have a child in school, just a passion. It is a team effort. Our current members are passionate.
          • You may choose to address County organizations, or you may be a supporter in the audience. Both roles are equally important.
          • The Committee meets monthly to discuss matters of importance that merit our attention.
          • Timewise, there is a monthly meeting that last one to two hours, plus your time commitment for any of the other activities above.
